Pioneer新聞稿指出，現在('96年)MD市場以隨身型與組合音響型態為主市佔逐步擴大，特別是隨身型由當時錄音為主流隨著組合音響的普及，可遇見Player需求將更進一步提升。

本次以Player最重要的"小型化"與"續航"關鍵點致力打造而成。

相對於各家廠商在造形設計上亟欲表述的機能與科技感，Pioneer逆向操作以輕色調的流行語言詮釋MD Style，潔白質感的明亮機身鑲嵌上畫龍點眼的亮彩Bar，儼然是百搭年輕族群穿著的亮麗飾品。相較多數競品造型總是填好填滿(尤其是Sony)的慣例，更是凸顯P3形色的大方成熟。

機身原型可能來自於Sharp MD-ST501，僅MD套匣大小的投影面積尺寸，並擁有2片MD套匣套匣的薄17.9mm厚度，讓Portable MD轉變為更小巧輕便的Pocket MD~

新型液晶線控配備背光照明，無論外出或暗處等各式場合都點出炫目美麗的科技意象。

A Pioneer press release indicates that the MD market in '96 is primarily dominated by portable and home audio systems, with market share steadily increasing. Especially with portable players transitioning from being primarily used for recording to being integrated with home audio systems, the demand for players is expected to rise further.

This product focuses on two key aspects crucial for players: "miniaturization" and "battery life."

In contrast to other manufacturers who emphasize functionality and a high-tech appearance in their designs, Pioneer has taken a reverse approach by interpreting MD Style with a trendy, light color palette. The bright, white-textured body is adorned with a strikingly colorful bar, making it a versatile and eye-catching accessory for young people. Unlike many competitors that typically have a fully packed design (especially Sony), the P3's elegant and mature appearance stands out.

The body design might be derived from the Sharp MD-ST501, featuring dimensions no larger than an MD case and a slim thickness of 17.9mm, transforming the Portable MD into a more compact and convenient Pocket MD.

The new LCD remote control is equipped with backlighting, creating a dazzling technological impression whether used outdoors or in dark environments.

The included rechargeable battery offers an impressive play 8hrs, with a combined usage time of 14 hours, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free music experience even while on the go.

Additionally, the shock-resistant memory has been significantly upgraded to 16Mbit DRAM, four times that of previous models, achieving an almost skip-free 40-second buffer.
