近未來新意象

Sharp新聞稿指出，在年輕族群需求逐步擴大的MD，日本國內市場與去年相較預計'97年將增長至190%左右的460萬台。並隨著MD音響等可錄音體的普及MD Player的需求也急速增加，在同年8月推出的業界初　口袋型Slot In尺寸滿足青少年需求的流行感MD-J系列的發售。而本次以小型薄型化，讓攜便性與設計上更上一層的流行感口袋隨身聽推薦給青少年~

為了讓夢想更進一步，導入了以下技術打造：

超小型光學頭

採用了3向式的3.6mm薄型全息投影雷射。新研發的光學頭體積僅有以往的55%並實現6.7mm超薄厚度。

輕薄高性能機構

新開發的機構面積僅以往機種75%，同時機構底盤更加縮減。

高集積單晶片LSI

新開發的第五代小型LSI 採用了ATRAC 24Bit，能僅以單一晶片處理RF數位化、解碼器、數位伺服EFM處理、壓縮和解碼等功能。此外，通過低電壓設計實現了1.8V驅動同時節能。另外透過新規區塊浮動處理、優化位元分配和雜訊噪聲塑形等技術實現高音質~

藉由以上以科技打造出MD-ST501，僅MD套匣大小的投影面積尺寸，並擁有2片MD套匣套匣的薄17.9mm厚度，讓Portable MD轉變為更小巧輕便的Pocket MD~

前衛先進的圓弧全息色帶環繞出光碟的科技感，通常巴不得被潛藏隱形的操作鍵，Sharp設計師們大膽地逆向操作置於上方順勢成為造型的一部分也滿足操控的辨識性。隨著機身動作點滅的LED燈更是為整體帶來畫龍點眼的躍動感~

推出的三種色系Shining Yellow、French Blue採金屬質感塗裝，光滑烤漆呈現的Aurora White，會隨角度不同漸變出粉色的變色龍塗層。

新型液晶線控配備背光照明，無論外出或暗處等各式場合都點出炫目美麗的科技意象。

配備的充電池有著令人愉悅的8小時與AA併用可達14小時的長效續航，即便外出也能享受舒適無壓力的音樂生活。

防震記憶也豪氣大加碼地搭載相較過往多達4倍的16Mbit DRAM，實現幾乎與跳音無緣的40秒境界~

Neo Future Vision

By Sharp's press release indicates that in the expanding market driven by the demands of younger demographics for MiniDisc (MD) players, the domestic Japanese market is expected to grow to approximately 4.6 million units in '97, a 190% increase from the previous year. Alongside the popularity of MD audio systems that can record, the demand for MD Players has also surged. In August of the same year, Sharp introduced the industry's first pocket-sized Slot In model, the trendy MD-J series, meeting the needs of teenagers for portable convenience and stylish design.

To further advance the dream, the following technologies were introduced：

Ultra-compact Optical Head

Utilizing a 3-way 3.6mm thin holographic laser projection. The newly developed optical head occupies only 55% of the volume of previous models and achieves an ultra-thin thickness of 6.7mm.

Lightweight High-Performance Mechanism

A newly developed mechanism with an area reduced by 25% compared to previous models, with further reductions in the chassis.

High-Density Single-Chip LSI

The newly developed fifth-generation compact LSI uses ATRAC 24Bit and integrates RF digitalization, decoder, digital servo EFM processing, compression, and decoding functions into a single chip. Additionally, it achieves 1.8V drive capability for energy efficiency. Furthermore, it incorporates new block floating-point processing, optimized bit allocation, and noise shaping technologies to achieve high sound quality.

Through these technological advancements, the MD-ST501 was created, featuring a projection area size only as large as an MD cartridge and a slim thickness of 17.9mm, transforming the Portable MD into a more compact and lightweight Pocket MD.

The avant-garde arc-shaped holographic ribbon surrounding the disc exudes a technological aura. Typically hidden touch-sensitive controls are boldly placed on the top, seamlessly integrated into the design while ensuring operational recognition. LED lights on the body flash with the movement, enhancing the overall dynamic appeal.

Available in three color schemes: Shining Yellow and French Blue with metallic finish coating, and Aurora White with a smooth enamel that shifts to a pink iridescent color depending on the angle.

The new LCD remote control is equipped with backlighting, illuminating the sophisticated technological imagery whether outdoors or in low-light environments.

Equipped with a rechargeable battery providing a pleasing play 8hrs of continuous and extending up to 14hrs when combined with AA , ensuring comfortable and stress-free music enjoyment even while on the go.

Memory Shock Protection is generously enhanced with a 16Mbit DRAM, providing nearly four times the capacity compared to previous models, ensuring virtually skip-free performance for up to 40 seconds.
