本系列採用了堅固的薄型機身與高效操作的Slot In入 / 退碟片機構，並實現最強續航與流行風格向青少年族群提案。

訴求隨時可享受音樂攜便性的"Casual feel"設計，有著像是太空艙意象的MD-SS311，拱起的圓弧機面，而鏡面虹彩、操作鍵的傾斜配置帶來畫龍點睛的科技感，。有些遺憾Logo都僅以印刷處理帶過，質感遜色不少。

新開發的高集積LSI，於迴路面以單晶片集成信號處理、解碼器、RF數位化、數位伺服、EMF處理和解碼功能，達成過往-30%的功耗配合其他省電力設計，並採用無記憶效應的高性能鋰電池，充電池即擁有10.5小時續航。

有些可惜的是可能為產品級數的行銷，附屬的背光線控頗為遺憾還維持在上一世代規格，而官方強調的高音質設計，卻降級使用20bit ATRAC壓縮解碼，而非招牌的24bit ATRAC。

隨機也配置炫麗的虹彩飾帶，便於手拿外出的便利性，並讓3C的本質更適與服飾流行搭配。

Sharp press release points out that MD demand continues to grow among the youth, with the market estimated at approximately 6.5 million units in '98 (up +159.6% from the previous year). Additionally, the portable format (referring to the sum of other media such as cassette and CD) market is expected to be about 7.25 million units, with portable MD holding a market share of approximately 39%, anticipating the largest growth in both sales volume and value.

This series adopts a sturdy slim body and an efficient Slot In loading/ejecting mechanism, proposing the strongest battery life and trendy style to the teenage demographic.

Appealing to the "Casual feel" design for enjoying music portability anytime, the MD-SS311 features a capsule-like image with a curved surface, while the iridescent mirror finish and slanted button layout provide a finishing touch of technological flair. It is somewhat regrettable that logos are only handled with printing, making the texture feel somewhat inferior.

The newly developed high-density LSI integrates signal processing, decoder, RF digitization, digital servo, EMF processing, and decoding functions onto a single chip at the circuit level. This achieves -30% power consumption compared to the past, paired with other power-saving designs. Using a high-performance lithium-ion battery with no memory effect, the rechargeable battery alone provides 10.5hrs of battery life.

In a square pocket size equipped with a One Touch Slot In mechanism, the overall mechanism frame projection area is only 69% of previous versions, achieving a 20.9mm slim body.

It is a bit of a pity that, perhaps due to product tier marketing, the included backlit controller is regrettably maintained at the previous generation's specifications. While the official statement emphasizes high-sound quality design, the compression decoding has been downgraded to 20bit ATRAC instead of the signature 24bit ATRAC.
