MD基地　誕生

以嶄新概念登場的複合式機型，由Station + MD Walkman構成，外出時是隨身聽，居家與座機(Station)結合即是迷你音響的錄/放MD座。

R4ST是採用薄型複寫頭機構與4層印刷機版讓迴路實裝高度集積化，比起前座MZ-R3體積比-26%、質量比-21%，達成年度最薄23mm，最輕量的雙冠軍，不過Walkman本身只能MIC錄音(勝之不武?)，Optical / Line介面錄音需與Station結合才能使用。

R4ST也是Sony初　雙液晶(主機+線控)Recorder。線控也開始支援片假名的顯示。

比起前作充電池往上直衝約↑200%的6，併用時達10.5小時續航力。

規劃完善的Station，擁有連專業錄音座也汗顏的大型背光螢幕，最大同時顯示約80文字的，光碟、曲名、操控，總曲目、錄音電平等同時顯示無須切換的變態級顯示力。

Station也針對顯示、Track Mark、移動、刪除等常用功能配備快捷鍵，打造高效直覺的操控體驗。右側還貼心地提供額外的充電池收納空間，並可直接充電。

配備了相當齊全的數位、類比輸出 / 入端子各一組，編輯與擴充堪稱是面面俱到的軍火裝備，還是Sony MD Walkman系列首次內建數位取樣，不同頻率的數位音源皆可直接以Optical介面錄製~

Birth of MD Base

Introducing a groundbreaking concept, the composite model combines a Station with an MD Walkman. On-the-go, it serves as a portable MD, while at home, combined with the Station, it transforms into a mini audio recorder.

The R4ST incorporates a slim replication head mechanism and a 4-layer printing machine, enabling highly integrated circuitry. Compared to its predecessor, the MZ-R3, it achieves a volume reduction of -26% and a weight reduction of -21%, marking the thinnest (23mm) and lightest model of the year. However, the Walkman itself can only record with a microphone (a minor shortcoming?), while recording through the Optical/Line interface requires connection with the Station.

The R4ST is Sony's first dual LCD (main unit + remote control) Recorder. The remote control also begins supporting kana display.

The battery life, approximately ↑200% compared to previous models when fully charged, reaches up to 10.5 hrs in simultaneous use.

The well-planned Station boasts a large backlit screen that even puts professional recording stations to shame, displaying approximately 80 characters at maximum. It simultaneously shows disc information, track names, controls, total tracks, recording levels, and more without needing to switch—an exceptional display capability.

The Station is equipped with shortcut keys for commonly used functions such as display, track marking, navigation, and deletion, providing an efficient and intuitive user experience. Additionally, it features thoughtful extra battery storage on the right side, allowing for direct charging.

With a comprehensive set of digital and analog input/output terminals, the editing and expansion capabilities are exhaustive, making it a fully-equipped arsenal. Moreover, it marks the first inclusion in the Sony MD Walkman series of built-in digital sampling, allowing direct recording of digital audio sources at different frequencies via the Optical interface.
