In contrast to Sony, which only included digital optical input/output in the first-generation MDs, Sharp retained the luxurious feature of digital optical input/output. It also features a detachable remote control with standard headphone jack specifications, allowing users to freely choose their headphones.

The built-in lithium rechargeable battery offers REC 2.5/ play 3.5hr of playback, but a full charge takes a lengthy 8 hours. Users can opt for the large external battery pack (AAx 6), which significantly extends recording time to REC 7 / play 12hrs in one go.
