The Hidden Deluxe Version
Not only unique and rare in online information, but also seemingly unadvertised by the official channels, the high-quality MD-100EX is an extremely rare pale blue model with a glossy finish that exudes a porcelain-like translucence.
It's easy to see that its prototype likely originated from the MD-MS100, possibly a model crafted exclusively by Sharp for specific distribution channels.
Despite being a unique version, the outer packaging of the 100EX straightforwardly informs you of its opulence by including the luxurious AD-MS10BT lithium rechargeable batteries x2. This allows it to claim an impressive 200% extended battery life of 9hr (the body can only accommodate a single battery). Another notable feature is the inclusion of two blank MD discs, although it's not prominently advertised.
Different from the typical clamshell mechanisms with complex opening and closing actions, the 100EX adopts a Slot-In mechanism, requiring only a One Touch horizontal motion for convenient and quick disc insertion and ejection. Slot-In, however, requires more space and makes the player somewhat thicker and heavier.
To complement the Slot-In design, the player departs from the previous horizontal layout and features a clean and airy design with a significant amount of white space and the use of curves. Unfortunately, it did not come with a screen-equipped remote control and only featured a screenless remote control, which is a missed opportunity.
The thoughtful "Synchro REC" function detects the presence or absence of audio during recording and automatically starts/pauses recording accordingly, making recording and editing more straightforward and convenient.
