Luxury Aiwa
Perhaps derived from the OEM version of the MZ-1, the Aiwa AMD-100, the reigning king of portable cassette players in Asia during the 1980s, was released with a distinctive and luxurious champagne-colored finish, giving the solid and substantial body an air of elegance and opulence. It could be considered of the most beautiful 1st generation MD player.
Featuring a multitude of complex button operations, a rare fully motorized disc loading/unloading mechanism, and standalone optical fiber audio input/output, among other lavish features typically reserved for professional equipment, the AMD-100's weighty design seemed to justify its significance.
Capable of recording external digital / analog / MIC sources and taking advantage of MD's unique optical-magnetic principles, it offered powerful editing capabilities, allowing for simple and flexible merging, splitting, moving, erasing, and other unprecedented editing functions for recorded content.
Its multi function display , capable of showing up to 12 x 2 characters, activated the backlight when connected to DC (using a charger). The substantial battery, however, offered only limited power endurance and lacked support for an external battery pack.
With its lofty price and substantial size, the AMD-100 clearly distanced itself from the Walkman, indicating that it was more suited as a compact recording companion. The introduction of the Mini Disc marked the beginning of a new era in music, opening the door to the next generation of music lifestyle.
We appreciate any official MD information including specifications.
